Producer Sounds True says:
The Wisdom of the Body Summit comes at a time when many of us are feeling the pain and isolation of living in a disembodied culture.
We have the power to change this prevailing culture.
We can reclaim our instincts, listen to the messages of our emotions, and live as embodied, heartfully connected, grounded, warm, and loving people.
We must let the intelligence of our bodies lead the way.
Excerpt from one of the presentations:
“Practice You: Your Innermost Wisdom” with Elena Brower.
Summit host Sounds True notes: “Elena Brower is a bestselling author, yoga instructor, and meditation teacher.
“In this interview with Tami Simon, Elena talks about how you can learn to bring your innermost wisdom to the forefront of your daily experience.
“She explains the importance of bringing our mind and body into harmony, the practices that support this, the art of letting go, and more.”
Presenter Karen Brody comments on how she overcame her anxiety:
I had a long history of anxiety.
I had been having panic attacks from the time I was in my late teens.
When I had my children, I went over my threshold for exhaustion.
And that put me in one of the worst panic attacks I had in my life, where I wound up in the hospital and went on anti-anxiety medication for three years.
Around that time, almost by chance, I discovered a practice called yoga nidra meditation—or what’s also known as “yogic sleep.”
I happened to poke my head into a yoga studio classroom where about 25 women were lying down with eye pillows and blankets, looking like they were having the best nap of their lives.
I told myself, “I want what they’ve got. I don’t know what it is, but it looks like bliss!”
And so it was that yoga nidra meditation became the nap that not only changed but saved my life.
During my first year of practicing yoga nidra meditation, my body just felt so much more relaxed. I had not even experienced relaxation on this level before.
I started feeling like my nervous system was no longer going into “overactivation mode,” which would send me into panic attacks.
By the end of a year, I was able to go off the anti-anxiety medication. I ended up having an incredible boost of creativity. I wrote a play about birth, which was performed all over the world. I was much happier and more peaceful inside. Just from rest.
